2.5 Stars for facilities but 5 star park

Ladies DO NOT MISS this gorgeous park out of fear of the facilities. I have been twice and would never miss a campout here. The picture on this page is the view from the youth/large group site. There is one group outlet hookup and you can take a hot shower. The bathroom is like an outhouse with plumbing and is hot. The shower is made of a single molded piece of plastic. If you go and shower there say "hi" to my medium sized spider friend who lives in the upper corner of the shower. Believe me I kept my eye on him throughout all 3 showers I have taken there over 2 weekend trips and he didn't move. He also cuts down on the other types of bugs that would be in there if it weren't for the 2-3 spiders. If you can't handle it bring body wipes and skip showering for a weekend or rinse in the peaceful river. The other issue is that there is only a rusted nail hook and no table or counter to set your toiletry items on. The sink is old and rusty. The boys bathroom is so bad my husband had to threaten to spank my boys if they didn't shower and he went in with them. Evidently a squirrel or rat made a nest in the bottom corner of that shower. The women's is not that bad. I also hear the family site facilities are much nicer so it's worth checking into booking early enough to get a bunch together in a row for the various families in your pack.

The river is awesome and the ranger says he's never seen an alligator out there. The ranger is also very nice and let our pack camp 2 nights for free if we agreed to spend a couple hours picking up trash at the old city of Columbus dump around the turn of the century. There is a tree swing that goes out over the river just across it from the youth site. Our boy scout troop canoed down and met us at the youth site. The canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and fishing are awesome on the river that's not rough but cool and clean :-). Hiking trails are great leading to a historical railroad bridge and old cemetery. Boys are 100% entertained all day without electronics and exhausted at night for good sleeping. The campsite is well shaded. I LOVE this place :-).
