This blog was created to rate Florida campsite facilities using a 5 star system including narrative descriptions of details I can recall that lead to the rating.  I am the mother of 2 boys involved in scouting and have camped at several sites in the northern half of the state.  When my oldest started in scouting I had no tent camping experience.  The pack my son joined had very few moms that camped.  I will confess that I always enjoyed the outdoors, but some of Florida's large and strange bugs still freak me out :O!  The dads were welcoming, supportive, and impressed that I was willing and eager to learn BSA style camping;  however they always laughed that the first thing I wanted to know in deciding whether or not to attend a camp out was what kind of restroom and showering accommodations existed if any.  Men are usually not very informative in this area and even the campground websites did not always provide the kinds of detailed information about facilities I wanted so I often went in blind.

 

I discovered in my experiences along the way these were things most of our new Cub moms wanted to know but were afraid to ask before camping. These unknowns were what made them nervous about starting to camp with their new Cub Scouts now anxious to go. They would come to my husband as Cub Master and say, "But I've never camped before." He would always reply with, "Go talk with my wife, she'll tell you all you want to know."  Hence, my idea for creating this blog website as one of my Wood Badge training ticket items.  I will specify for each site whether I camped in the large group/youth camping area or an individual family/small group site.  There are often significant differences with the large group/youth sites usually being more primitive.  Keep in mind, you can often walk to the family sites from the youth sites to use the nicer shower facilities.  I hope you find it helpful and will give me a rating for sites you have been to that I have not with a narrative description explaining your reasoning for the rating.  I will add it as another campsite post as my busy schedule allows.  This site is designed in the scouting spirit so please no cursing.
